Parallel Programming Workshop

Abstract
The aim of these workshops is to give people who already have some programming experience an introduction into the basics of parallel programming. The focus is on programming models, MPI, OpenMP and HPF, domain decomposition, load balancing and parallel numerics. Language support is given for Fortran, C and C++. The course was developed by HLRS, EPCC (MPI-1), NIC and ZHR (VAMPIR). Hands-on sessions will allow users to immediately test and understand what the basic constructs of MPI, HPF and OpenMP are meant to do. Message Passing with MPI is the major programming model on large distributed-memory systems in high-performance computing. HPF is a programming model suitable for data-parallel problems. OpenMP is dedicated to shared memory systems.

The workshops in spring 2001 are given at four locations with different focus:

Course A: Feb.28 - Mar.2, Dresden, ZHR MPI and OpenMP
Course B: March 6-9, Stuttgart, HLRS MPI, OpenMP and HPF for beginners
Course C: March 12-16, Stuttgart, HLRS MPI and OpenMP for beginners and
advanced topics in parallel programming
(in English)
Course D: March 21-23, München, LRZ MPI and OpenMP
Course E: March 28-30, Jülich, NIC MPI and OpenMP
Course F: April 2-6, Stuttgart, HLRS Advanced topics in parallel programming
with MPI and OpenMP

The course language is German (except the course March 12-16 at HLRS, which is in English). All slides and course materials are in English.
